I Think I could I think I can make the camera fit both of us in so that'll be a lot of fun for those of You don't know what we're talking about.

I started a new series of videos this year. Yes, it is a new year Happy 2025 and I started a new series of videos this year called theology from a golf cart

I did my first one at dusk Which I won't be doing again because it was just a little dark for the videos a little grainy

But why I did it on the subject of the Trinity the next one that I'm gonna do is going start light

Yeah. Yeah. Well, I hate to say the Trinity is an easy subject It's not an easy subject, but it's somewhat easy for me because it's a subject that I've written on I have a book on the

Trinity that's going to be coming out It actually came out years ago and I've been selling it self -published for a while, but it's being re -edited

So a new edition is coming out and it's being published During the spring of this year.

We're going to have the new book God in three persons a biblical and historical Study of the doctrine of the

Trinity and it will be out So that was why I chose to do the Trinity, but I do have a very special Theology from a golf cart that I'm working on.

It's a topic that I've been asked to talk about Literally dozens of times by you guys and through emails and things like that and I've never tackled it

I want to tackle it, but I haven't yet but but I'm going to so just keep your eye out for the next

Theology from a golf cart. It's one that I know is going to be divisive I know people are going to have differences of opinion and I'm going to invite the differences of opinion for people to hash it out

In the comment section because I know people a lot of people differ with me on this one, but I'm looking forward to it

I'm not gonna tell you what it is. I wanted to be a surprise, you know what it is, right? Don't say it if you know,

I did today, which was my of course. I'm a Reformed Baptist. I was wearing

James's dad shirt. That's weird, but it James's dad and mom are so generous and so cool and he had given me a shirt and and so if you watch that video

I'm wearing a blue checkered shirt, and that's James's dad shirt So James if you talk to your dad tell him thank you for the very nice shirt.

I'm Yeah, they're very generous with their clothes. I know that seems weird

But yeah, they they've been they've given us some very nice clothes and we're very thankful for that. All right, so What is my favorite handgun

Jennifer? I want to ask you. What do you think? My favorite handgun is? Hmm Do you know the differences?

Okay all right, so okay, so my my my daily carry is a

Is a Springfield so but that's not my favorite that's just my daily carry because Because it's it's small enough for me to carry and still holds a good amount magazine.

So I carry a Springfield XDS But my favorite handgun

All around is the Glock Primarily because of the so you're right

Primarily because it's basically the ak -47 of pistols. You can dip it in mud You can drop it off of a roof.

You can do whatever you want to it and it's still gonna shoot There's a video of a guy who literally tied a Glock to the back of his truck made sure it was empty

Of course and he drove down the road let it get beat all to death it knocked the knocked the sights off of it knocked the

It basically smoothed out the whole gun because it just rubbed it raw all the way around He picked it up put a magazine in it

Knocked the dirt out of it put a magazine in it drew the slide back and fired 15 rounds and there was not one stoppage So I always was impressed by that video.

I'm impressed by things that just work I like things that work like my my camera that I'm using, you know,

I've got studio cameras But the camera I use for this is just one that works. I use a Logitech Brio because it works It looks good, and I like things that just work.

So Glocks are like that So I know most of you didn't tune in to talk about guns, but this was a question somebody asked so if you want to ask though my favorite gun my favorite handgun outside of a

Glock and I do have some interest in this because I do teach handgun classes and I've been in firearms for a long time

Glocks I like because they work really well, but the coolest gun for me the one that I just like Overall is the

Beretta M9 which in that's the military version. The the the civilian version is the 92

F. I don't own one If somebody wanted to get me one for my birthday That would be a wonderful gift.

The Beretta m9. It's just an awesome -looking gun It was featured in two movies that I love lethal weapon and die hard.

It was the gun that was carried by Martin Riggs and John McClane Interestingly enough in that movie when the

Danny Glover character Murtaugh sees the gun that that he's carrying. He mentions he says it's a 9 -millimeter.

These are the words he says in the movie nine millimeter Beretta 15 and mag one in the pipe wide ejection port

No jams. That was the way he describes the gun Which is not true. It does it does it can jam any any gun can malfunction?

But that was the that was the way it was described in the movie. So anyway, I Know this is probably boring everybody, but I like to talk about guns and somebody asked me that question

No. All right. Well the pastor filmed himself in a Like a silver box like he was like and he had a lighter and he was wearing the the the the

Undershirt, you remember the movie that part where he says, huh? Come out to the coast Get together.

Have a few laughs. That's the the line from the movie what he says when he's in the when he's in the the

Air conditioning duct. Well the pastor filmed himself doing that Which I thought about parodying

I wanted to I thought about the denominations film diehard That was an idea that I had

I may do that next Christmas and that I was gonna put the Methodist in the in the

But the question is what do I think about that kind of stuff? Obviously? This is a podcast and we have a

YouTube channel Where we make fun of things and one of the things that we make fun of is eccentricities that happen in churches specifically

Big Eva style eccentricities. I did a video making fun of The Santa Claus that was out over the audience, you know flying away on the zipline and all that stuff and and so Obviously, I think a lot of that is is is bad

I think a lot of that is a joke, but I do want to make a distinction and I think that this is important I and I and I think that this is this is at least fair Is it silly that these mega churches put on these shows that are either based on the

Greatest Showman or I saw one that was Toy Story. I saw one that was diehard.

Is it silly that they do this? Yes But at the same time we have to step back and we have to be fair About two things and this is this is what

I want to want you to consider tonight number one if this is not a worship service if this is just a

Play or a production that the church is putting on then we we shouldn't equate it to a worship service and say oh

Look what they're doing in worship. If that's not what it is. I think I think we have to be honest because Here's here's something to consider and again,

I'm not defending that people get mad because sometimes I defend things who you shouldn't defend that Well, here's here's what I'm saying. We have to be we have to deal with equal weights and equal measures, right?

if a if a if a church that has a Hundred members puts on a play

Right. That's not a worship service and it has a little production value to it I mean and and they do that with their little hundred members and a church that has 30 ,000 members puts on a bigger play and a bigger production

Equal weights measures is basically the same thing. It's just Ridiculously larger because it's a ridiculously larger church.

So we have to at least say, you know, what's the difference and you say? Well, this one here was about Jesus and this one wasn't okay, that's fair.

Right if that's if that's the case But if it's not a worship service, we shouldn't say that it is we we shouldn't we shouldn't

Say well, this was their worship service if it's not now if they are having a worship service and it's a die -hard themed worship

Service, I think that's ridiculous. I think that's as I say a lot of times I hope was a blast for them because it was certainly a blast for me that kind of stuff is ridiculous and Then then it comes back to the question do

I think churches are the places where these things should be Should should the church be putting on?

These plays and things like this and in general, I think not we are not in the business of doing

These types of productions that's that's not what the church is here for but again, is it inherently sinful?

No, it's a lot of times. It's just silly It's just foolish. And so that's kind of my thoughts on it.

I think I make fun of it a lot I make fun of it on church soup I think that a lot of the guys blur the line between what is worship and what is these plays essentially and For the most part,

I think they're not good. Now you have a thought I can I can tell I can I can feel you Thinking no. No, I mean

Yeah, I just think it's ridiculous. It's so ridiculous to me I mean and plus I mean if you're trying to Put on something like that and just the hopes that people will come

Or I mean just to you know The people would like draw the number under the seat, you know You win a prize if you come to church or I mean just so gimmicky just yeah

And and it goes back to the what you win them with is what you win them to right? So if this is what you're winning people with Then it's not good.

And somebody just mentioned cerebral mentioned this she mentioned worship tainment that's by my my very good friend

Matthew Everhard wrote a book called worship tainment and I did a review of it and Had him on my show.

So I'm thankful to to mention that and yes, there is a lot of Replacing worship with entertainment that has happened.

That is not good Let's see, let's see somebody had a question up here

I'm gonna get off the topic ultimately the die -hard service I think was foolish because they were from what I understand it was trying to be a worship service.

That's not good So move on to the next question How does your how often does your church take communion?

We take communion every 20 minutes? We keep we keep bread and wine at our home and our watches our eyewatches go off every 20 minutes and Everyone in the house stops what we're doing.

The good thing is we're homeschooled so we can do this all the time So we all gather together in our in our kitchen and we take communion every 20 minutes and all of our churches have synchron

Everybody in our church has a synchronized. I watch and if you don't know I'm being ridiculous by now, then you should

I'm just being I'm being silly. No, that was a great question. Our church takes communion every week and It is a blessing to get to share the bread and the cup every week as the body of Christ there is a lot of conversation about the the

The propriety of that whether you should do it every week whether you should do it every month Some churches only do it every quarter.

I know one at least one church pastor I talked to they only do it annually and he said he couldn't remember the last time they had done it because it had been so long

I think there is always the danger of people

Mistreating the table because it becomes so common because they do it every week

But as long as the table is Treated with the reverence that it deserves and the in the bread and the cup are given the the special place in the service

Where they are the focus and we're focusing on Remembering what Christ has done in his body and in his blood

Then I think that is that you can do it every week and it maintain the the value that it has in the service and I Mean it's a call to just Examine yourself also and examine if you have anything against your brother or sister in Christ before you take it so it's really an introspective time and not open to if you're under church discipline at another church or You know you you don't take yep, so That's somebody asked that question slice of bread asked is it open or closed?

We do what's called close Communion and so there's open communion and there's closed communion and then there's that sort of the middle ground

Which is some people call close communion and I'll give you the kind of the understanding of how those three things work closed communion is

The practice of only allowing church members to have communion Therefore someone who is not a member of the church is not allowed to participate in the bread and the cup

Open communion typically means anyone who comes is allowed to take of the bread and the cup

Then there's what we practice and that is this we have stated in our worship folder as well as verbally stated in the worship service that this bread in this cup is for believers only and If you are a believer visiting our church from another church, you are welcome to participate with us

So long as you are in good standing with the church to which you belong So if you're coming to our church and you are under discipline from another church

Then you are not Welcome to participate in the table

And if we know that you're under discipline from the from another church, we won't even offer it to you

So that's how it's practiced in our church We and part of the reason is is we do believe that if a person is a believer

So long as they are in good standing with the church that they belong to we should not hold them back from the table

If they're worshiping with us on a Sunday, so that's how they get to the opportunity to worship now great question

Christopher just asked boy. We're not gonna get to our email questions. This is great What is a worship folder?

It's my word for bulletin. I Don't like the word bulletin and I never have

I always felt like bulletin was kind of like, you know Like something you put on the bulletin board like it should have a list of Keith words.

There's also narthex Narthex is a word. How many of y 'all don't know what a narthex is narthex is people call it a four -year people call it a

Lobby, it's a narthex. It has it in in church history. There was there was a

The way churches were constructed there were there were certain rooms that had that had a place in the service in fact the the place where the where the

Pastor is that's not called the stage. That's called the chancel. So I'm very in our church

I don't I don't say go up onto the stage. I'm very specific because the stage is a place for performance That's not what we're doing up there.

We're not performing. So I These are Keith words are not key for these are historically Christian words,

Jennifer Okay, all right so, um Narthex Okay, so you have the chancel you have the the sanctuary some people don't like the word sanctuary because they say there's only one sanctuary

And it's in heaven But but that's what we would say we would say there's this the chancel the sanctuary the narthex is the room that leads into the sanctuary

Historically in church history the narthex was used for specific things There were there were places that it had it had a specific function.

What? It might be the fancy word for four -year, but it had a purpose.

Okay, Mike Do you remember that time that woman called it an altar? Oh my god

Now I lost my mind on that because she called our communion table an altar. In fact, no, this is what happened

This is a great story. This is a great story. I'll tell my story all right, so This we were in it we were in a meeting it was some kind of a meeting about the

Sanctuary and how we were decorating it or something and the lady said well I think we should put the I think we should do this on the altar and I raised my hand and I was

Like I was I think I was a youth pastor. I wouldn't even pass her time I said what are you talking about? I said what altar and she goes the altar and I said what altar and she goes the place we take communion is

The altar I said no, ma 'am. It's not Because that which is on that table is not a sacrifice

That's the what the Roman Catholic Church teaches is that what is happening on that table is a representation of the once -for -all sacrifice of Christ and that the priest himself is an altar

Christus who is Performing again the sacrifice of Christ in the mass. We don't believe that this is not an altar.

This is a table This is a table for this meal which represents the body of Christ It is not a representation of the sacrifice of Christ.

And so I was very clear. No, it is not an altar and it's not an altar cloth and Question was asked.

Have I ever have I ever been to a holy mass? I have been to Catholic services.

Yes, I was I Specifically I used to work for a funeral home.

So I did a lot of work with With Catholic churches was in and out of Catholic churches a lot

Also a few of you have asked me I mentioned a chronological Bible reading plan that I was working on for 2025 well, here's the deal

I didn't get a chance to put everything together that I wanted to so I know we're three days into the new year and I'm behind if you guys are still interested here was that here was what

I was going to do This year I'm starting to preach through the gospel of John And so what

I was going to do was I was going to put together a chronological reading of the four

Gospels Where you would read through the four Gospels in a harmony so you're reading through the four

Gospels in 2025 and You were going to do that three times Because there you if you read about a chapter and a little extra a day

You can read all four Gospels three times through in 2025 and read it through in chronological order

So if you are still interested in that, let me know in the comments and in the next few days

I'll work on getting that together and maybe we can start it next Friday next Friday night live if I if I get enough interest

All right Okay, Jennifer, let's get to our Questions. We only have a few questions tonight

But the first one is going to take the lion's share of our time It's actually two people wrote in the same question and it's a question on the subject of assurance

So Jennifer, would you read both of those questions to the audience? Okay, I Have doubted my salvation on and off for some time.

How can one know if they are one of the elect? How can I know I'm saved? The second one too, okay,

I have a question that's been bothering me I've asked other people who are Calvinists, but they haven't answered me.

Please. No, I'm not trolling. It's a legitimate question I grew up in a church that taught that we are saved by repenting and putting our faith in Jesus Christ and his redemptive work

On the cross which I did at a rather young age Then I was introduced to Calvinism and now I have to wonder is it possible that I want to be saved?

But God hasn't chosen me I mean, I believe that Jesus died for my sins and is the only way to heaven

I just now worry that God will say no, I'm sorry. I haven't chosen you. Can you help me understand?

All right. I I'm so thankful one That these questions come in and these these are important questions that deserve some time to Genuinely walk through and so I am glad we don't have too many questions tonight

Because I want to walk through the the some of the misunderstandings of the second question

But I think it will help with both both of these people two different people one sent in two emails

But it was the same person She sent in an email to my website and she sent in an email to the church website

And it was both of them saying I'm doubting my salvation doubt it for some time How can I know that I'm saved? How can

I know I'm one of the elect and I was like wow okay, this person is really dealing and struggling with the subject of assurance and The second person dug deeper though.

The second question as Jennifer just read is Is it possible that I want to be saved but God hasn't chosen me and that that is a question that I really think misunderstands the the heart of Calvinism it misunderstands the heart of What we are even talking about when we talk about God's election

So here here's here's what I mean by that the desire to trust

Christ the desire to follow after Christ the desire to Submit ourselves to Christ is not something that comes from within us

But rather that is a that is something that is is opposed to the natural man

The Bible tells us the the natural man does not seek after the things of God. He doesn't understand the things of God and Ultimately he is he is at enmity with God He is at war with God because of sin and because of his deadness in sin

The Bible says you were dead and your trespasses and sin in which you once walked and that you were by nature a child of wrath that is the condition of the heart before God changes our heart and so the question of well,

I The person says I grew up in a church where I was taught that I was saved by repenting and putting my faith in Jesus But now

I don't know No, that same message is what is taught in Calvinistic churches that that message doesn't change that we are saved

Yeah, you repent and believe that is the the the method of salvation

It's it's not that we go searching for Election or trying to trying to determine whether or not we are elect

How do we determine whether we are elect? The elect are those who repent and believe that's who the elect are it's it's not a

It's not a It's not something that is

Different in in in the sense of Well in a in a church, that's not Calvinist They teach you to believe in Jesus, but a

Calvinistic Church teaches you to make sure you're elect No, no, we also teach you to believe in Jesus That's that's the thing the difference is

We would say you won't believe in Jesus You won't genuinely trust in Christ unless you are one of the elect because the election is

What God does in eternity past? That causes us

To become believers it causes us to be able to go from death to life

This again going back to John 6 No one can come to me unless the father who sent me draws him and I will raise him up on the last day

That particular passage says that God is going to do the drawing and he is going to raise us up He's he's drawing us and he's going to raise us up He's the one who does it and I love

John 6 37 Which says all the father gives me will come to me and the one who comes to me.

I will in no way cast out. I remember years ago One of my favorite preachers and he's with the

Lord now he was the pastor of Riverbend Community Church in Ormond Beach and His name was

Roy Hargrave Roy Hargrave had a series of lessons that he taught on Calvinism and I I used to listen to him all the time.

I loved his teaching. I loved his ability to explain Explain What how how

God saves and one of the things that he said he was asked one time to teach at a conference on Calvinism and evangelism and This is what he said

He said John 6 37 all the father gives me will come to me and the one who comes to me I will in no ways cast out

He said the first half of that is Calvinism all the father gives me will come to me The second half of that is evangelism and the one who comes to me.

I will in no ways cast out He said that's Calvinism that's evangelism. They're both together in the same verse and I was like, that's pretty genius.

That's that's very smart and ultimately That is where I would begin if you have come to Christ in faith

If you have trusted on the Lord Jesus Christ, then it's it's not a question of am

I elect? It's a question of do I believe in Jesus? Do I trust in his finished work?

Do have I placed my faith in what Christ did not my faith and whether or not

I'm elect But have I placed my faith in what Jesus has done and if I have done that then

I'm one of the elect That's that's the key and if you believe those things and you're still struggling with doubt,

I would suggest to Number one don't rely on your feelings.

That's like you might not feel a certain way I mean, you know what the facts say you've talked to the gospel to yourself

Don't go by based on how you feel. It's what you know is know is true. That's right. I know as a woman

It's probably hard for you to believe that we're led more by our feeling Okay No, yeah,

I've never seen you led by your feelings at all Okay so Let me let me add this

I want to walk back for a minute because when I was when I was thinking about how I was gonna answer this question I said, you know what?

I want to do is I want to walk through very quickly a very brief

Understanding of what we call the the order of salvation the fancy Latin is the order salutis the order of salutis

But basically just means the order of salvation like how does salvation begin and end

Right, like like what are the steps right? And and so we would say from our perspective that salvation begins

When we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, right? That's that's when salvation begins

But from God's perspective Salvation began before that right from God's perspective in eternity past God had chosen

God had First the Bible says he foreknew us and for no doesn't mean that he saw what we were going to do and then reacted to It but the

Bible when it uses the word no, especially from God's perspective. It's speaking of relationship for instance when

Jesus says that in John in Matthew 7 when he says depart from me

I never knew you the word know there refers to relationship doesn't mean he didn't know them personally

He never met them, but he's saying I know I don't know you in the in the in the sense of a saving relationship

So the Bible says whom he foreknew He he knew us. He he he was he entered into Voluntarily entered into a relationship with his people his elect

He chose them and he entered into a relationship with them and in that he predetermined or predestined them

And he predestined them according Romans 8 for a specific purpose to be conformed to the image of his son

Right, that is what we're predestined to to be conformed to the image of Christ And then it goes on to say in whom he predestined he called

Now that is not talking about just the outward call of the gospel but that is talking about the inward work of the

Spirit the calling the of the inner man that is that enables us to believe we call that the effectual call of God and That call results in our coming to faith and so Whom he foreknew he predestined whom he predestined he called and whom he called he justified

Now we are told several times in Scripture that justification is by faith

What does that mean? Justification means that we are declared righteous by God that God actually

Takes us from being under his curse being an object of his wrath being object of of his divine displeasure and He Declares us to be righteous

That's what justification means doesn't mean makes us righteous He declares us righteous, but how can he do that without without lying because we're not righteous

And in of ourselves, we're not righteous. How can God? How can God declare us to be righteous if we're not?

The Bible says he declares us to be righteous because of the work of Christ Christ is righteous in and of himself

He never sinned not once in thought word or deed and for the 33 years of his life.

He never sinned I can't go 33 minutes without having a sinful thought or saying a sinful word or having a sinful action

Jesus went 33 years never once sinned and therefore on the cross when

Jesus died The wrath of God. Oh, I'm gonna say it was satisfied.

That's from the song, right? God's wrath was poured out on Christ Christ took the punishment that I deserved

Christ righteousness was given to me as a gift. We call that Substitutionary atonement penal substitutionary atonement because he's taking the penalty and we call that imputation double imputation the imputing of my sin to Christ the imputing of Christ's righteousness to me

That's double imputation So now the Apostle Paul says

I stand having a righteousness Not of my own that comes from the law

But a righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ and so when you ask how can

I know that I'm saved I'm not telling you I'm not pointing you to To trying to discern whether or not you're elect even though the

Bible does say make our calling an election. Sure I'm not calling you to that. I'm not saying that what I'm saying to you is believe on the

Lord Jesus Christ And you will be saved because it is through him and his finished work that you can be saved

It is through him and through his finished work that you receive Justification and whom he justifies he glorifies

He begins the process of glorification the moment you're justified He begins to sanctify you and the

Bible describes Sanctification in 2nd Corinthians is moving from one degree of glory to another we are being sanctified throughout our lives

We are being conformed to the image of Christ. That's what we're predestined to and then one day we will shed this mortal flesh 1st

Corinthians 15 says that the mortal will put on immortality and We will receive a glorified body and that glorified body

Will no longer sin in the new heaven in the new earth. We will no longer sin and so The question of assurance, how can

I be assured of my salvation? First of all, you have to understand.

It's not what you did. It's what Christ did If you want assurance for your salvation, you cannot look to yourself

Because you will always fail you will always find yourself wanting You cannot look to yourself if you want assurance for salvation

Lindsay that what's that? I can't wait. That's right That's right. You cannot look to yourself if you want assurance for salvation.

You must look to what Christ has done you you You can say

When you're considering, okay, how do I know that I believe one thing is our desires change

That's one thing that does happen when we believe Now, I'm not saying you have perfect desires.

You still struggle with sin I still struggle with sin if you're a believer and there's not a believer out there that doesn't struggle with sin, right?

But our desire changes one of my professors used to use this and I had a country professor

I really loved dr. Jerry powers. He we called him Pappy powers, and he would say when

I got saved I got a new wanna and he said because before I was saved I want to do this now I want to do that.

I didn't want to serve Christ now. I want to serve Christ. I got a new wanna, right? so one of the things that we are

That we see when we come to faith is we see a change now now, I'm just gonna stop for a minute

Christ Crusader You're telling me I'm teaching grave heresy. I'm teaching the the Protestant view of salvation

Justification by faith. I believe in sola fide if you're a papist you don't believe what I'm teaching, but I'm telling you you're teaching

You're telling me I'm teaching grave heresy. You yourself are following a heretic If you are a papist you are following the

Pope and the Pope is not a biblical office It is a office which is a corruption of the biblical office of Presbyter It is a man who has placed himself in the position of the vicar of Christ Vicarious one who stands in the place of Christ and he himself will burn in hellfire

For taking that position which belongs to the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the one who is in the place of Christ Not your

Pope. Just listen to me. You can tell me you can you can comment all you want that I'm preaching grave heresy

I'm preaching what the Bible says All right now

This is this is I mean get mad if you want The the the the

Pope calls himself pontifex maximus Which is the great bridge builder, you know, the great bridge builder is

Christ. He is the ladder to heaven He is the one who took the wood of the cross and built a bridge from heaven to man

From from heaven to earth from God to man. Your Pope is not the bridge builder Your Pope is not the

Holy Father Your Pope is not the vicar of Christ Those three titles belong to the

Blessed and Holy Trinity not to your papist not to your Pope. So listen to me

I'm not impressed by your papacy. I'm not impressed by your calls of me being a heretic. I'm not impressed by any of this

So you can continue to say what you want You can continue to call me a heretic, but just know you're on your

All right Okay When it comes to assurance, how do we find assurance we find assurance in the finished work of Christ it is by Trusting in the finished work of Christ and you say but my but my faith is not perfect.

Your faith is not perfect It's not my faith is not perfect, but the finished work of Christ is perfect It's not it's it's not the faith that has to be strong It's what the faith is in that has to be strong and the finished work of Christ is the strongest thing in all the universe

The finished work of Christ is the thing that can be trusted Listen, if I have all the faith in the world

I'm gonna tell a funny story. I'm gonna tell a funny story When Jennifer and I first got married We we rented a apartment that had a porch and I wanted to get some chairs for the porch

You know the story, you know, what's coming? Okay, so we go to Walmart to buy the plastic molded chairs if you've ever seen those plastic molded chairs we go to get those plastic molded chairs for our

For our porch and there were two Chairs, there was one for five dollars.

There was one for ten dollars and I got to thinking I was 20 years old We'd only been married for six months and I'm looking at the chairs.

I'm like, well if I buy the $5 chair Yes, I can get Twice as many chairs for my porch if I buy the $10 chair

I can only buy a couple of chairs, but if I buy the $5 I can get twice as many chairs Let me see what the what the $5 chair feels like So I'll pull out the $5 chair sit it down on the floor of Walmart and you guys know what's gonna about to happen this is this

I am I am no small man, I Sit down in the chair the the $5 chair in Walmart it was like someone set off a mortar under my behind the whole thing

Exploded. Do you remember that? It was like a foul? Thousand pieces

I landed on my backside The lady we locked eyes.

We locked eyes. I looked up. There's a lady from Walmart over there. She goes She didn't come to see if I was her she laughed so hard and she ran away

I'm on the ground and And and and I'm just I'm definitely mortified

I'm so embarrassed here's the point I'm making No matter how much faith

I had in that chair, no matter how perfect my faith was in that chair. The chair couldn't hold me

However, if I sit down on a steel bench Even if I have a timid faith, even if I have little faith

The the the steel bench is going to hold me because the steel bench is strong The plastic white chair was weak the steel bench is strong It's it's not the strength of our faith that saves us

It is what our faith is in that saves us and our faith is in the finished work of Jesus Christ He is that steel chair

And of course bubblegum. Yes, the $10 chair worked. I bought two $10 chairs

Yes, the $10 chair held me but the $5 chair did not I think it was for children I think I sat in a children's chair

Okay. Whoo All right. That was that was a lot to get through but ultimately I want to say one last thing about assurance because these two ladies were

Sent this in they're asking the question about assurance and I hope this has been helpful. But let me let me add this

If you're in a church and you're struggling with assurance, please go talk to your pastor Please reach out to your elders and have them pray with you pray for you

Take you to scripture talk to you about what the word says the Bible gives us all kinds of reason for assurance

Jesus said if we are in his hand He is in his father's hand and no one can snatch us out of his hand

That is great assurance. If we are in the hand of God the Son who is in the hand of God the

Father And we've been placed there by the Holy Spirit No one can take us out of his hand

That should give us great assurance that should give us great comfort. All right Huh?

All right, Jennifer Let's talk about the second question, which is a question about prayer if God is not a cosmic vending machine

How can a person explain that prayers are not the coins? To put in yet.

Our prayers are heard and sometimes answered in the way we hope how is prayer effectually? I can't talk.

I'm sorry. How was prayer effectually explained? We are told to pray without ceasing and the persistent widow never gave up either

I struggle with explaining God's peace and hope through prayers Especially with those with great pain and they are

Christians in name only thank you for all you do All right. So the very first question if God is not a cosmic vending machine

How can a person explain that prayers are not the coins to put in yet? Our prayers are heard and sometimes answered in the way we hope.

Okay, so ultimately this is a question of the why of prayer and This is a very common

Concern among Christians because the question is well one

If if I pray for something, is it is it always going to happen? Some people say yes

Some people say all you have to do is claim it in faith and it's going to happen That is a form of prosperity or name it and claim it or what we call word of faith

Doctrine and we don't hold that we don't teach that we don't endorse that. In fact, we would say that is a dangerous teaching because it does make

God a vending machine that all I have to do is throw in my prayer and outcomes my

My Yeah, yeah praises go up blessings come down, right? That's the the which

You know, sometimes that means all I have to do is name this thing or claim this thing and it's going to happen

That's not what the Bible teaches. The Bible does not teach a Name it and claim it doctrine

What the Bible does teach is that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us

That's what the Bible says. But yeah, if we ask anything according to his will he hears us and so we are commanded to pray according to the will of God understanding that our will is not always

God's will and when our will is Against God's will for us

God is under no obligation to fulfill our desires or our wishes

Last year, I was asked to come and preach in Arkansas at Wade Lentz's Church, which is

Beryl Baptist Church In in Arkansas I'm gonna be back there again this year looking forward to seeing brother

Wade and his family and Get a chance to see all of his church members again They were wonderful people and one of the things

I it was a the the the series I did last year was on the sovereignty of God and I did one night on the sovereignty of God in prayer and I want to just remind

I know many of you probably didn't see that sermon or didn't hear that sermon But I want I want to tell you some of the things that I taught about on prayer one.

I Said first and foremost prayer is appointed to us as an avenue for for worship

Prayer is a form of worship so even before we consider prayer as an

As as asking God for things or petitioning God for things or supplicating God for things prayer is an act of worship

We should pray Even when we're not asking God for things. So when you talk about effectual prayer when you talk about prayers that are

That you know why we pray and things like that The first the first answer is we pray because God has appointed it as an act of worship in our worship services

Like like at our church. We talked earlier about our worship folder the reason why I call it a worship folder is because it's not just a bulletin the worship folder has the order of worship in it and we begin with a prayer at the very beginning some people call that an invocation or invoking the blessing of God and then we have a prayer of Confession where we confess sin we have a prayer

That's part of the pastoral prayer where the prayer the pastor also prays a prayer of supplication For church members who are sick or ill or hurting praying for their health or for their

Salvation or things like that I pray right before I preach that is a prayer of blessing over the service and a prayer of Protection for me as I preach the word that God would keep me from error

I pray a prayer of application afterward that God would apply the word to his people and then of course

There's what we call the end is called the benediction from the word bene, which means blessing

It's the prayer of blessing over God's people as we pray at the very end of the service So the worship service is set up in a specific way where all of these prayers are

Meant to worship God in the way that he has called us to worship him and only one of those the pastoral prayer

Really is is a supplicating prayer or a prayer that's asking for something a petitioning prayer

The rest of them are prayers of worship. And so we need to understand that that prayer begins

It is an act of worship secondly prayer is also It has been appointed as an avenue for growth

Prayer is one of the ways that we learn to become more faithful because the more we are in Fellowship with God the more we are learning about him and the more we're in Contact with him through prayer the more we're growing.

And so it's it's not only a Appointed for worship. It's appointed for growth.

It's it's it's one of the means that God uses to grow us is through prayer a

Person with a weak prayer life is probably as a week walk because they're not in fellowship with the

Lord So so that is that that's the second thing the third thing. It is a it is a it isn't appointed as a

For petition to ask God for things with the understanding that nothing we ask

God is obligated on him We ask God we do not command God. I I have a video somewhere

I have to pull it up sometime where a guy said God sits up and takes notice when I put a demand on his will

And I was like, dude, what an absolute nutter butter you are to say such a thing

To say that God sits up and takes notice when you put a demand on his will who do you think you are?

So that helps me I I'd like to keep a prayer journal and write down Petitions and then you can go back later and look at look through and see how

God has answered a certain prayer or Update, you know further or maybe it was a no

That's right. And that's that is something else to consider in the petitions that we give to God in our supplications

God is not obligated to answer in the affirmative any more than I am obligated to give my children everything they asked for My children are the analog to me that I am to God in Relationship, I'm called a child of God.

I'm adopted into his family I'm called his child and therefore there's a certain analog that happens when

I'm when I'm ministering to my children Oftentimes I'll say to my children. I wish you would just do what I tell you to do

And when I tell you to do it and I wish you wouldn't disobey me and then I look up and I and I and I Wish you just listen to me and then

I hear myself and I'm like God must think this of me Because the same thing I'm saying to my child is what

God, you know If you would just listen to me you'd be better off right if you just do what I say, you'd be so much better off Right and and so the same thing with with with prayer my children ask me for things

They don't need they asked me for things that I know are not good for them If my children got everything they wanted they would eat, you know

Candy and soda all the time. They they wouldn't have a healthy diet.

They wouldn't have Exercise and things like that on a side note our seven -year -old asked me today if we could have a yes day

And I said, well, what is a yes day? And she said anything that I ask you all day. You have to say yes

It's a terrible idea yes day. Yes day. So absolutely

Absolutely Terrible idea terrible idea. I do want to Aaron said something here.

He said prayer produces dependence and humility. Amen, brother Absolutely, I agree a hundred percent.

That's what I was saying. It is appointed as an avenue for growth. It's appointed as an avenue for worship It's appointed as an avenue for supplication

So long as we supplicate with the idea that we're asking God according to his will Mary mentioned this but I'm going to mention it too and that is the idea that when we

Say God, will you please do this? We should always consider the words of Jesus Christ when he said nevertheless not my will but thy will be done

Nevertheless, not thy will not my will but thy will be done. I can say to God. I trust your will more than mine

I want this person to be healed. I want my life to be this. I want this to happen I want that to happen

I want this to be answered But you God know better than I do and you are working out your will for my life

You are causing all things to work together for the good of those who love you So I'm gonna work out my salvation with fear and trembling while at the same time knowing that it is you who work within me

Both to will and to do your good pleasure. I'm gonna trust you Oh God to do those things

Even if you don't answer the prayer the way I think you should you're not a cosmic vending machine You are not a celestial

Santa Claus. You are in fact the God who does all things well, and it's amazing what an amazing privilege it is to pray to the

God that created the heavens and the earth that um I mean to put the stars in the sky

I mean just all of the attributes that he has an amazing way that we can go to him and pray and he hears us

His word says he hears us. I mean, it's just Mind -blowing. Absolutely. And the last thing because I had four things when

I preached on this. I said it's appointed as an avenue for worship It's appointed as an avenue for growth. It's appointed as an avenue for supplication

Last point though. It's appointed. God commands us to pray if we had no other reason to pray but that God commands it

We know it would be the best thing for us because God does not command us things that are not for our good so He causes all things work together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose

We pray because he commands us to And it is a model and it is ultimately for our good.

All right before we get to our last question tonight I want to go to This right here. Um, this is uh, somebody asked this question

How do I honor my parents as an adult who are unbelievers but profess faith to my children my parents believe

Their new bible is the true one and discourage church attendance cultish. Okay Um wcf think is that what it says wcl or wc 1 2 3

Sorry, the screen's a little far away from me and i'm getting old with my old eyes. I need my readers. Yeah Um, how do

I honor my parents as an adult who are unbelievers but profess faith to my children My parents believe their new bible is the true one and discouraging church attendance.

Okay, there's there's more to this question I'm trying to read into it a little bit like what bible is it? What what first of all?

I don't believe anybody who discourages church attendance is right because the bible i've taught on this

I've i've got videos on this i've got sermons on this Church attendance is not something that is optional for the believer lone wolf christianity is bad

Go back a few weeks ago. Look at my my video on lone wolf christianity. That's bad. Show it to your parents I don't know if they're going to want to listen or if they're going to want to be interested in that But the bible just does not endorse lone wolf christianity and so um, the idea that you should be outside of the church that you should be um,

Not a part of a local church is not is not good. So, uh, that's one thing.

Um, You do have to Even though they're your parents and you have to honor them. You also have the responsibility of protecting your children

That's that's that's your job. So that's a balance that you have to strike, right?

So you have to say okay I want my parents to be loved by me and I want them to have access to my children to love my children

But we're going to have some parameters and make those parameters very clear to your children

Um, you know, we have unbelieving family members we have um, I have unbelieving relatives jennifer has unbelieving relatives and it is very very clear to our unbelieving family that they are that they're they're not to um

They are not to endorse their unbelief to our children or they are not to teach our children false things um, we had uh our children in a private school for a while and Uh, one of the teachers there was endorsing some things that we didn't believe so we had a conversation with her

Do not teach these things to our children because what you're teaching we do not agree with we do not endorse and um that You have to be honest with people you have to say this is not what

I believe This is not what even if they're your parents, I love you And I believe you are sincerely wrong

And i'm going to tell you I can't change your heart, but i'm also not going to let you Bring that to my children and so If that if that means that there has to be

Some division for a while while we work these things out, that's fine, but you have to protect your children So that's my answer.

You have any thoughts on that? I was just thinking it doesn't say the age of her children But if they're older children, you could go to scripture, you know about not forsaking the fellowship

Yeah, absolutely. Very good. Yeah teach your children the right thing That was kind of what we did with our kids when it came to the teacher, you know

When they were at school and there was a teacher there were some things that were being taught And some of it was just charismatic stuff and we they would come home and say well our teacher said this or the other teacher said this and it was

Charismatic stuff that we disagree with we would walk them through scripture and teach them what we believe about that That's another good way to Combat that issue

All right, jennifer. We have one more that we're going to do and uh, then we'll be done for the night

Okay Is jesus still man now that he has ascended? Our supper time devotion last night was about the nature of jesus christ

It referred to jesus in the pre -incarnate state prior to bethlehem since eternity passed all good

Then my 16 year old asked is he still in a pre -incarnate state now? And before I said anything my 15 year old said it would be post -incarnate

Then the 12 year old piped up or he is still in the body My wife started to say well, he ascended so he can't be in the body

Then they all looked at me I had listened to your latest sermon that morning on my drive And I remember you saying he was still the god man in heaven

But I didn't want to say well foskey says he never gave up his humanity I was hoping you you could give me some scripture or help me out with this

First of all, it's never wrong to just say foskey says if you feel good about it If you think what

I said was right just say hey, man foskey said it and I believe it Is It's okay, uh, uh say hey man, uh foskey said it

No, don't put us in Um, okay, so here's the deal sorry,

I can't go to this foskey said I can't yeah okay, so um

When jesus rose from the dead he rose from the dead in a glorified body He was in the body, but his body had been changed

We know it's his body because his body was no longer in the tomb But we know his body was no longer like the mortal flesh that he had because his body had been glorified

He was now able to move about in a way that was different than before He was able to be inside locked doors.

We see this in part of the gospel. He was able to um, move from different places, uh in in a way that seems rather miraculous and so his

At his post resurrection body is his glorified body, but he's still the god man so When he ascended he ascended as the god man

He sits at the right hand of the father as the god man and as the book of first timothy says

He is the man who makes intercession for us. It says there is one god and one

Who uh, there's one god and one intercessor between god and man the man christ

Jesus that remember it calls him man. It's not talking about just the intercessory work of the cross But it's saying even now he is our intercessor

He is the man christ jesus who continues to intercede for us and when he returns he returns as the glorified god man in his return and so the idea that he is

Only spirit now and no longer Body is not what we see in scripture. We see in scripture that he is the glorified god man even to today

So that's my reason why I said because I did say and thank you for listening to the sermon I did say

That um, he is still the god man because I believe he is still the god man. The hypostatic union did not cease

At the resurrection because his body wasn't left behind Right his body rose glorified our bodies will rise glorified

Paul says that our bodies in an instant will be changed the mortal will put on immortality

We will receive a and he does call it a spiritual body But that doesn't mean a body that's only spirit only immaterial but a body that is empowered by the spirit.

It is a glorified body, all right, so that is the That that's how we understand that that's that's how

I come to that conclusion now will the hypostatic union maintain itself

Forever will that maintain into eternity? I believe so, but I that's that's a little more difficult

But ultimately I believe right now we can safely say that jesus remains the god man based upon the resurrection accounts the based upon the fact that he

We ourselves are promised to be glorified like him We says the beatific vision when we see him as he is we will be as he is

And we are told that he received a glorified body and he was the first fruits of the resurrection

We too will receive a glorified body at the resurrection Remember the new heaven and the new earth is not simply a spiritual plane

It is a new physical existence a new heaven and a new earth new glorified body where we will live forever without the fear of death and with the blessing of a sin free world sin free bodies

Just a wonderful thing to even imagine and a wonderful place to end tonight's show. I want to thank you
